IRREGULAR INCOME BUDGETING

How long will my money last?

FortuneTell helps people with irregular income see future cashflow, plan around upcoming bills, and understand how long their money will last.

Most budgeting tools are built around a stable monthly pattern: income arrives, bills go out, categories reset, and the month starts over. That just doesn't work for people with truly irregular income. Traditional budgeting breaks down when income changes, inflation peaks, or unexpected expenses occur. One slow week can affect the next three weeks.

FortuneTell is built around the question you actually need answered:

What happens next?

Use FortuneTell to look forward at your expected income, upcoming bills, and current balances, and to identify timing gaps. The goal is to see into the future. The goal is to make the timing of your cashflow visible enough that you can prevent shortfalls.

The problem is timing

Irregular income does not fail neatly at the end of a calendar month.

The problem usually appears in the gaps:

  • between today and the next payment
  • between a paid invoice and the next bill cycle
  • between a good week and a bad week
  • between several small bills and a large one
  • between what the budget says should work and what the real world says
  • after your car breaks down (that's the real world)

A monthly budget can tell you your income and expenses balance on paper, but in the real world a payday won't come before your bills are due.

That's the problem FortuneTell focuses on.

Why ordinary budgeting tools miss it

Ordinary budgeting tools often start with categories, past spending, and monthly summaries. Those can be useful, but they do not always answer the most urgent irregular-income question. Or they sell you the dream that if only you give every dollar a job, you can save up in no time when in reality you have more jobs than dollars.

You may already know you spent too much last month. You may already know groceries, gas, rent, insurance, subscriptions, and debt payments are expensive (and going up). What you may not know is whether the money available today can safely make it through the next set of bills.

For irregular income, the order and timing matter.

FortuneTell allows you to see what is coming clearly and instantly, with no guessing or manual calculations. FortuneTell gives you fast, reliable answers in a clear visual format that is easy to understand at a glance.

What FortuneTell does

FortuneTell helps you see your future cashflow.

It connects the pieces that matter when income is uneven:

  • how much money is available now
  • what income is expected
  • when that income may arrive
  • what bills and obligations are coming
  • when those bills are due
  • how long the current balance may last
  • where timing risk may appear

FortuneTell uses deterministic calculations. That means it works from the information entered instead of pretending to predict what will happen. If the inputs change, the view changes. If income is delayed, the plan can be updated. If a bill moves, the timing can be adjusted.

The result is a clearer view of future cashflow.

Not a motivational dashboard.

Not a lecture about spending.

Not a hidden prediction engine.

A quick and easy way to see how long your money will last.

Who FortuneTell is for

FortuneTell is for people whose financial lives do not fit clean monthly assumptions.

That includes:

  • freelancers waiting on invoices
  • gig workers with changing weekly income
  • tipped workers whose pay depends on shifts and volume
  • contractors with project-based payments
  • commission workers with uneven pay cycles
  • people paid biweekly while major bills are monthly
  • people with multiple small income sources
  • people rebuilding after income disruption
  • anyone who needs to see whether money lasts until the next payment

FortuneTell is also for people who have tried budgeting apps and still ended up using spreadsheets, notes, calendars, or mental math to answer basic future-money questions.

If your real question is “Can I make it to my next payday?” then, FortuneTell is for you.

What makes FortuneTell different

FortuneTell starts from future timing.

That makes the product different from tools that mainly organize what already happened.

Future cashflow first

The main job is to help show what happens next: upcoming income, upcoming bills, and balance timing.

Manual-first by design

FortuneTell does not require bank sync to be useful. Manual-first planning keeps the important assumptions visible and editable.

Built for irregular income

The product is designed around uneven income, changing expenses, and timing gaps instead of assuming you live on a steady monthly paycheck cycle.

Deterministic instead of predictive

FortuneTell does not need to claim it knows the future. It calculates from explicit inputs so you can see how your cashflow will change and plan for it.

Focused on the practical question

The point is not to produce a beautiful report about last month. The point is to help you answer whether the money available now can get you through what's coming next.

What FortuneTell is not

FortuneTell is not financial advice.

It does not tell you what financial decision to make. It does not replace professional legal, tax, investment, or financial advice. It does not guarantee that a plan will work.

FortuneTell is not predictive AI.

It does not claim to know what income will arrive, what bills will change, or what emergencies will happen. It works from the information you provide and shows the cashflow effect of that information.

FortuneTell is not a spending optimizer.

It does not promise to fix spending, maximize savings, or automatically improve financial outcomes. It is a planning tool for making future timing easier to see.

FAQ

What is FortuneTell?

FortuneTell is budgeting and cashflow software for people with irregular income. It helps users look forward at income, bills, and balance timing so they can better understand how long their money may last.

Who is FortuneTell for?

FortuneTell is for people whose income does not arrive in the same amount on the same date every month. That includes freelancers, gig workers, tipped workers, contractors, commission workers, and people managing multiple or inconsistent income sources.

Does FortuneTell allow for traditional budgeting methods?

Yes, in addition to providing best-in-class future cashflow management, FortuneTell enables you to use a variety of budgeting approaches, like traditional category, zero-based, and more, while taking advantage of the cashflow forecasting feature. It is the best of both worlds.

Does FortuneTell require bank sync?

No. FortuneTell is manual-first and does not require bank sync to be useful. The goal is to keep planning inputs visible, editable, and understandable.

Why is FortuneTell manual-first?

Bank sync can miss the point. Sync may be delayed, incomplete, duplicated, misclassified, or unavailable. For many people, the fastest reliable answer comes from entering what they know: current money, expected income, known bills, and planned spending. FortuneTell is manual-first because explicit inputs are easier to inspect, correct, and trust.

Is FortuneTell financial advice?

No. FortuneTell is not financial advice and does not tell users what decision to make. It is a software tool for organizing budgeting and future cashflow information.

Why not just use a spreadsheet?

A spreadsheet can work, and many irregular-income users fall back to one because ordinary budget apps do not answer timing questions well. FortuneTell is meant to provide a more focused system for the same practical need: seeing future cashflow clearly enough to plan around it.

What is FortuneTellLite?

FortuneTellLite is an older concept version of FortuneTell that we are releasing totally free while FortuneTell is in development. FortuneTellLite is intentionally stripped down to provide a simple, limited view of the FortuneTell deterministic cashflow forecasting feature.

Is FortuneTell compatible with FortuneTellLite?

No, unfortunately FortuneTell is a totally new architectural design and is not backward compatible with FortuneTellLite. FortuneTellLite was never designed to be a permanent budgeting solution. You will have to create a new account and reenter your data if you would like to use FortuneTell in the future.

Will FortuneTell be a free or paid app?

FortuneTell is committed to providing accessibility to all users. We understand that affordability is an access issue for some of our users, so both free and paid FortuneTell options will be available.
